Job Description:
The Vice President of Medical Affairs will provide strategic, operational and medical leadership the Medical Affairs organization. She/he will ensure that the department’s strategy and the core job functions of the Medical Affairs department are executed in a manner that aligns with our emphasis on putting patients first. This position will report to the Chief Medical Officer, and is a great opportunity to define and implement the Medical Affairs program for a first-in-class, novel anti-cancer therapeutic that will require fresh approaches to patient and physician education.
Responsibilities:
Provides strategic leadership for all Medical Affairs activities, developing and executing strategy for Dendreon’s lead active cellular immunotherapy product candidate.
Recruits, develops and manages a highly functional and productive Medical Affairs team.
Ensures that all medical affairs activities and initiatives are aligned with those of the commercial functions and are compliant with corporate policies and regulatory requirements.
Develops and implements strategies for life cycle management of commercial products.
Develops and implements Key Opinion Leader strategy.
Develops strategy for and implements post-marketing clinical studies and a competitive Investigator Sponsored Research program.
Develops medical education programs; sales force training and support; and clinical development product strategy.
Ensures there is appropriate medical input and review to support relevant clinical development, business development, market research, marketing and corporate communication, and sales/marketing promotional material/activities.
Ensures effective integration of Medical Affairs activities with those of Clinical Affairs, Safety and Regulatory Affairs.
Job Requirements:
Extensive executive level Medical Affairs leadership experience with focus in oncology and/or immunotherapy.
In-depth experience creating the strategy for post-marketing studies, actively developing and managing medical liaisons, and managing the lifecycle of oncology products. Through this experience, the candidate will have built strong relationships with key opinion leaders worldwide and will have an appreciation for the processes and disciplines necessary for success.
Ability to build relationships and create authentic alignment to lead high performing teams forward in a thoughtful and purposeful fashion to achieve defined objectives.
Commitment to working in a team-oriented, cross-functional and collaborative manner.
Strong understanding or experience in all phases of product development, including pre-clinical development, clinical trial management, post-launch marketing, post-approval studies, Regulatory Affairs and GCP.
Excellent written and oral communications.
Proven leadership, management and team skills.
